Fisher, Rochefort tells the entertaining story of how she, an American raised on meat and potatoes, learned to appreciate food \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"707\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-707x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1091\" srcset=\"https:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-707x1024.jpeg 707w, https:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-207x300.jpeg 207w, https:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-768x1113.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-1060x1536.jpeg 1060w, https:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-1413x2048.jpeg 1413w, https:\/\/harrietweltyrochefort.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Fried-scaled.jpeg 1767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 707px) 100vw, 707px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CHEESE EXPRESSIONS from French Fried<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c My favorite cheese expression is <em>entre la poire et le fromage<\/em>, between the pear and the cheese, which refers to the moment in the meal when you can relax and bring up certain subjects you may not have wished to talk about before that point.&nbsp; For French business people, business talk usually gets serious between the <em>poire et le fromage<\/em>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I also like the expressions <em>en faire tout un fromage<\/em>, to make a big deal out of something, and <em>il a trouv\u00e9 un fromage<\/em>, which means he found a really cushy job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The French don&#8217;t call someone important a <em>grand fromage<\/em>, a big cheese, as we do in the U.S.&nbsp; They call a VIP <em>une grosse l\u00e9gume<\/em>, a big vegetable (and not <em>un gros l\u00e9gume<\/em>, which would be grammatically correct).&nbsp; And when they want you to smile for a picture, they don&#8217;t say &#8220;Cheese.&#8221;&nbsp; They say <em>ouistitit sexe<\/em>. Ouistiti is a little monkey and pronouncing it (oui-stee-tee) makes you stretch your lips into a smile.&nbsp; As for the sex part, that&#8217;s supposed to give you happy thoughts.
